Background

The legislature’s objective in establishing the GMSIH on a more permanent footing was to expand its role in the exchange of information within health care networks and specifically among family medical providers, health care institutions and medical social workers, in order to improve the coordination of care.

Therefore, the GMSIH has developed a new project on health care network information systems, to make hospital information systems more open to health care information systems in general (networks, family medicine, medical social workers).

To gain a more precise idea of the actions that must be taken in this new area, the GMSIH has introduced plans to define the health care network information system within the health care information system as a whole.

This initial project is aimed at defining the areas encompassed by a comprehensive, coordinated approach to patient care-giving.
The steps involved in creating an information system that can interact with other information systems (health care institutions, family medicine, medical social work, health and supplemental insurance, etc.) will then be defined. Options for sharing can then be defined, in particular for infrastructure services.
